Callsigns NZ was launched in 2007 as the first online portal for
kiwi boaties to purchase Marine Radio MF/HF (SSB) Callsigns and
Marine Radio MF/HF & VHF Callsigns. Callsigns NZ is run
entirely by Ministry of Economic Development Authorised Examiners.
Operators of radio transmitters in the aeronautical, amateur and
maritime services are required to use a callsign for identification
purposes. Now kiwi boaties can apply for their marine radio callsign
online with ease in a matter of minutes from the comfort of their
living room or office! The 3-step online application for obtaining
your marine radio callsign has simplified what used to be a
complicated process.

be registered on Radio Spectrum Management's national SMART Register
of Callsign Records. |
Select your delivery method and confirm payment
Chose to have your callsign delivered by email to your inbox, posted
or faxed. Initiate your Visa or Mastercard payment to be processed
securely online. |
Confirmation and Delivery of your Client ID,
Activation Code and Callsign
Receive instant confirmation that your application has been
received, Your SMART Activation Code will be generated along
with the granting of your Callsign. |
Pick & Personalise your own Callsign
What's more, applicants can
pick and
personalise their own callsign (some criteria applies) and have
them processed and delivered to your email inbox (or via post/fax).
You can submit up to 3 preferences as part of your online
application. Our callsigns do not expire, and the Radio Spectrum
Management Group have no intention of changing these rules at this
time. Boaties have enough expense to worry about without the added
hassle of crazy renewal notices!
Maintaining your Marine Radio Callsign
Once your callsign has been granted, the relationship doesn't
stop there... As a new client you will be issued with a Client
Number and Activation Code allowing you to create your own User Name
and Password so you can maintain
your personal information contained in the Ministry's certificate
records. There is no fee to change your client details and changes
are visible immediately on the SMART
 database. Our clients who access
SMART
with their User Name and
Password are able to view and print their own certificate and callsign records.
As part of the service we offer, we
maintain all MF/HF (SSB) only and MF/HF & VHF equipped ship
callsigns provided they are not allocated to a radio licence, but
are allocated to a GURL (some charges apply). We'll even take care
of callsign transfers and changes of
ownership - all online!
